Unitree H1 vs H1-2 — Differences and Which Version to Pick
A comparison of the original Unitree H1 and the updated H1-2: what changed in hardware, motors, sensors, controllers. Which to buy in 2026 for research and R&D projects.

In short: H1-2 is an incremental upgrade of H1 with improvements in control, sensors and gait stability. By baseline specs (height, weight, speed) the two models are close, but H1-2 gives a more mature platform for R&D teams that don't want to solve the initial bugs themselves. For teams focused on their own AI stack, the original H1 remains relevant and more accessible.
This article is for research teams choosing a Unitree flagship for humanoid robotics in 2026. It helps you decide between the two versions without overpaying where it doesn't give real advantage.
What changed in H1-2
| Aspect | H1 (2023) | H1-2 (2024–2025) |
|---|---|---|
| Height | ~175–180 cm | ~180 cm |
| Weight | ~47 kg | ~47–50 kg |
| Speed | up to 3.3 m/s (record) | up to 3.3 m/s |
| Degrees of freedom | 26 | 26 (improved articulation) |
| Torque | up to 360 N·m | up to 360 N·m (more stable) |
| Compute | NVIDIA Jetson Orin | Up to 3× NVIDIA Jetson Orin NX |
| Sensors | Baseline kit | Extended (improved IMU, accuracy) |
| Gait stability | Good | Notably better in demos |
| SDK | Open | Open (same) |
| Dex compatibility | Dex3-1, Dex5-1P | Dex3-1, Dex5-1P |
What materially differs
Gait and maneuver stability
The main user upgrade — gait is more stable on uneven surfaces and under load changes. R&D teams who worked with the original H1 note: on H1-2 the baseline gait controller needs less "tuning". That saves weeks of engineer time.
Sensors and IMU
The IMU and baseline sensors got more accurate. Critical for SLAM navigation, imitation learning, precise manipulation. On H1-2 the OpenVLA, RT-2, Pi-zero models work more accurately out of the box.
Compute
H1-2 in max config ships with 3× NVIDIA Jetson Orin NX, providing significantly more onboard compute. For teams training in-house VLA models this reduces latency and simplifies deploying models directly on the robot.
What didn't change
The baseline platform: height, weight, speed record, main form factor. The open SDK — the same. Compatibility with the Dex hands ecosystem — the same. If you already have work on H1, migration to H1-2 doesn't require rewriting code.
When to pick H1 (original)
- Budget is tight — H1 is cheaper than H1-2 and more available in delivery.
- Your team is strong in SDK development and can "tune" the baseline gait themselves.
- Task is fundamental research in motion control where generational differences don't matter.
- Accessories are already bought and there is H1 working experience — migration is overkill.
When to pick H1-2
- If this is your team's first humanoid purchase — H1-2 gives a more stable start.
- If your task is VLA model training and you need max onboard compute.
- If the team doesn't want to spend weeks tuning the baseline gait.
- If a public demo is planned (stability shows in demos).

FAQ
Should I upgrade H1 to H1-2?
Usually no. If H1 already works and the team is used to the platform — migration is overkill. H1-2 makes sense at first purchase or when expanding the fleet.
Are SDK works compatible between H1 and H1-2?
Yes. The SDK is shared; no code migration is needed. The exact behavior of the baseline gait is slightly different, but that's a calibration issue, not a rewrite.
Price difference?
H1-2 on average is more expensive than H1, but the exact difference depends on configuration, country of delivery and current Alashed terms. An engineer gives an exact figure via WhatsApp.
Delivery time?
H1 — usually in stock or short delivery from China (4-6 weeks). H1-2 in flagship config may need 6-10 weeks depending on Unitree production load.
How does H2 relate to H1-2?
H2 is the next generation with a bigger leap (51 DOF, facial expressions, more powerful AI). H1-2 is the evolution of H1. H2 is aimed at teams that want max embodied AI capability; H1-2 is a reliable workhorse for humanoid R&D.
Can H1-2 be ordered with an enhanced configuration for my task?
Yes. The baseline config can be extended with extra sensors, Dex hands, enhanced compute. Alashed agrees the configuration to your task at order.
