Guide to Unitree Accessories — Batteries, LiDAR, Hands, Compute Modules
A full overview of the Unitree accessory ecosystem: spare batteries, charging docks, 4D LiDAR L1/L2, dexterous Dex3-1 and Dex5-1P hands, NVIDIA Jetson compute modules. What goes with which platform and which kit unlocks maximum capability.

In short: a standard Unitree robot purchase without accessories covers 60-80% of capability. Unlocking the platform fully requires: a spare battery kit (mandatory for 24/7), 4D LiDAR L2 (for SLAM and industrial tasks), Dex hands (for manipulation on G1/H1), an additional NVIDIA Jetson Orin compute module (for your own AI stack). This article is the map of accessories to tasks.
This article is for those who picked the baseline robot but want to know what to add and in what order. Helps avoid buying excess and missing the critical.
Accessory categories
1. Batteries and charging
Baseline kit — 1-2 batteries plus charger. For regular 24/7 work or long shifts — a spare battery kit and an automatic docking station. The #1 expense line after the robot itself: without spare batteries the robot sits idle half the shift on the charger.
2. Sensors (LiDAR, thermal, gas)
4D LiDAR L1 / L2 — the main sensor for SLAM and industrial inspection. Thermal imager — for fire recon, equipment thermal diagnostics, finding people. Gas analyzers — for oil & gas and chemistry. Microphones with acoustic analytics — for security and patrol.
3. Dexterous hands (Dex)
Dex3-1 (3 fingers, 7 DOF) — for basic manipulation, pick-and-place, simple gestures. Dex5-1P (5 fingers, 20 DOF, 94 tactile sensors) — for complex manipulation, AI training, research tasks. Compatible with G1 EDU U3+ and H1.
4. Compute modules
NVIDIA Jetson Orin Nano / NX — to run your own AI models on the robot. Built into G1 EDU and H1, can be extended. Alternative: external compute on the robot's back (for research with large models).
5. Arms and platforms
Z1 (6-DOF cobot) — for stationary manipulation, can work paired with a humanoid or stand-alone. G1-D — data collection platform via VR teleoperation. Go2 training stand — for safe development on a lab table.
6. Protection and transport
Carry cases for transport, knee pads for stairs, rubber foot pads (consumable), backpacks for carrying, heated containers for winter operations. Often overlooked but critical for practical work.

FAQ
Which accessory to buy first?
Almost always — a spare battery kit. The most common reason for robot downtime. Second place — LiDAR L2 (for industrial tasks) or Dex3-1 (for G1 in humanoid scenarios).
Can I buy accessories separately from the robot?
Yes. Accessories ship as separate items via Unitree.kz. Compatibility is confirmed at order. Most accessories support native integration via DDS / ROS2.
Can dexterous hands be mounted on different robot arms?
Dex3-1 is compatible with G1 EDU U3+. Dex5-1P — with G1 EDU U3+ and H1. Can be mounted on the left, right, or both at once. Connection — standard wrist interface.
How long does a battery last?
500-1000 full discharge cycles — that's 2-4 years of operation depending on intensity. Snowballing degradation typically starts after 800+ cycles; that's when replacement is planned.
What about winter operation?
The baseline charging dock works at +5 to +40 °C. For Kazakhstan winters a heated container with charging inside is needed. Standard requirement for industrial use in KZ.
Can I add a custom sensor?
Yes. Most platforms have mounting points on top and sides plus standard power and data interfaces (USB, Ethernet, GPIO). Custom sensors (specialty gas analyzer, X-ray sensor, UV camera) mount via adapters — Alashed helps with integration.
