When to pick which

Universal Robots UR5

Pick if: you need industrial automation (welding, gluing, palletizing, packaging) and have a ready integrator and tooling. Don't pick for R&D with a strong focus on manipulation learning — the UR ecosystem is oriented to ready applications, not flexible programming.

Franka Panda / FR3

Pick if: you're an academic lab focused on impedance control, physical robot-human interaction, compliant manipulation. The "robot violinist". Don't pick for industrial automation or humanoid integration — too fragile and expensive to maintain.

Unitree Z1

Integration with the Unitree humanoid stack

Z1 is the only cobot that natively integrates with the Unitree humanoid ecosystem. What about service for UR5 and Franka in Kazakhstan?

UR5 has official distributors in Russia and Europe; work in Kazakhstan goes through them with long logistics cycles. Franka — via German distributors; any failure means shipping the board to Germany. Unitree Z1 is serviced via Alashed in Almaty — the fastest cycle.

Can Z1 be used in production?

Yes — for light automation (pick-and-place, simple assembly, lab automation). For heavy 24/7 industrial use with certified human-robot safety the standard is UR5/UR10. Z1 is positioned closer to R&D than to industry.

Which cobot is better for a university lab?

Depends on direction. If the focus is manipulation learning, RL, imitation learning, humanoid robotics — Z1. If impedance control, physical interaction, MIT-style classical robotics — Franka. UR5 is rarely taken in pure R&D learning labs.
