A Patrol Robot for Industrial Security in Kazakhstan
How Unitree B2 and B2-W automate 24/7 patrol of industrial sites, perimeters, finished-goods warehouses and restricted areas. Thermal imaging, gas control, mesh connectivity and integration with CCTV and security systems.

In short: Unitree B2-W is the optimal platform for fast perimeter patrol (> 8 m/s on wheels); Unitree B2 is for mixed terrain with stairs, racks and rough surfaces. The robot patrols the site 24/7 on a defined route, captures people and anomalies with the thermal imager, responds to alarms from security sensors and streams live video to the guard post. One robot covers the work of 2–3 operators per shift and dramatically increases incident response.
This article is for heads of security and HSE at industrial plants, restricted-area sites, logistics terminals, finished-goods warehouses and large commercial sites in Kazakhstan. It applies to refineries, GRES, metals plants, pharma and food factories, data centres and automotive plants.
What the robot does in security
24/7 perimeter patrol
The robot goes out on schedule or by trigger (motion sensor, thermal-imager intrusion, alarm). It walks along the fence, checks fence integrity, camera state, floodlights, gates and barriers. It compares the scene with a reference scan: a stranger's car appeared, a gate is open, the mesh is damaged — an alert goes to the guard post.
Alarm handling and incidents
When an intrusion sensor, broken glass or out-of-hours door open triggers, the robot enters first. The thermal imager finds the person by signature in the dark, the floodlight focuses on the target, video streams to security. This gives two advantages: the operator sees the situation through the robot before dispatching a response team and reduces operator risk.
Finished-goods warehouse control
Particularly valuable for steel (finished rolled product), petrochemicals (packaging warehouse), food industry (finished-goods warehouse). The robot walks between rows, counts SKUs by barcodes and tags, captures storage violations and unaccounted movement. This cuts losses from internal theft and simplifies inventory.
Thermal monitoring and fire scouting
The thermal imager finds not only people but also overheated equipment — potential ignition sources. When fire alarms trigger, the robot enters the zone first, captures the source and streams to the command point. Useful for large production buildings where a manual walk takes 30–60 minutes.
Requirements for a patrol platform in KZ
Key constraints — weather resistance, night-time capability, reaction time and long autonomous cycles.
| Parameter | B2 | B2-W | Industrial security requirement |
|---|---|---|---|
| Protection class | IP67 | IP67 | IP65+ year-round |

| Speed | up to 6 m/s | > 8 m/s (wheels) | fast alarm response |
| Battery runtime | 5+ hours | 5+ hours | night shift 8–12 hours with recharging |
| Payload | up to 40 kg | up to 40 kg | thermal + floodlight + cameras 8–15 kg |

Sensor stack for security
- Thermal imager 640×512 or 1024×768 — find people in the dark and behind cover.
- 4K camera with floodlight and 20–30× optical zoom — detailed shot of intruder or damage.
- Night camera with IR illumination — silent patrol that doesn't reveal position.
- Microphone with acoustic analytics — detect breaking glass, shots, screams.
- 4D LiDAR L2 — site SLAM map, GPS-denied navigation inside hangars.
- Gas analyzer (optional) — for chemical and petrochemical operations.
- Loudspeaker — to warn intruders from a distance.
Integration with the security system
The robot plugs into the physical-security stack: CCTV (Axxon Next, Macroscop, Hikvision, Dahua), access control (Bosch, Honeywell, Suprema), fire alarm, panic button. ONVIF, RTSP and REST API are supported. Triggers from security sensors automatically dispatch the robot to verify the alarm.

Frequently asked questions
Does the robot replace human security?
Not fully — it augments security and covers the 24/7 routine. People take decisions and respond to incidents; the robot does the walks, verifies alarms and gives the operator a visual picture before the response team arrives.
What about security-activity licensing?
The robot is a sensor and patrol platform, not a weapon or a legal security guard. The license is required for the security company or in-house team; the robot fits into their existing procedures.
How does the robot work at night?
Night IR camera + thermal + trigger-activated floodlight. The robot patrols silently in the dark and spot-illuminates the zone when motion is detected. Unlike a human, it's equally effective on any shift.
What is the mesh range?
Stock Wi-Fi covers 100–200 m line of sight. Mesh (Strata, Cradlepoint, Cisco Ultra-Reliable Wireless) covers full perimeters 1–10 km with repeaters. On large sites mesh is mandatory infrastructure.
Can the robot use force on an intruder?
No. The robot is a sensor platform: it observes, documents, informs security and optionally warns the intruder via loudspeaker. Use of force is handled by humans under the established procedure.
What about anti-vandal protection?
The IP67 chassis resists impact classes IK08–IK10. Additionally, a sound alarm is triggered on physical interference attempts. On large sites the robot patrols within view of stationary cameras, which deters tampering on its own.
